ITINERARY: 3 20 January 2007 (Updated as of 1 June 2006) Day 1 Wednesday 3 January Depart Australia with Emirates to Rome. Day 2 Thursday 4 January Arrive Rome and check into hotel. Day 3 Friday 5 January While in Rome, over the next few days, you may wish to consider visiting at your own expense the Casa dei Bambini in Via dei Marsi, San Lorenzo; the Opera Nazionale Montessori; Atrium of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd; the Montessori family grave; etc. Optional tours can also be arranged for those wishing to visit tourist sites in and around Rome. | | Day 4 and 5 Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January Attend the joint AMI - ONM Montessori Centenary Conference the theme of which will revolve around “The Child’s Mind” and “Education and Peace”. Please note, registration for this event is NOT included in the Study Tour costs. You need to register for the conference separately at: http://montessori.it Day 6 to Day 8 Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 January Days in Rome. Visits to interesting tourist attractions in Rome can be arranged at a cost. Day 9 Thursday 11 January 09:00hrs depart from Crowne Plaza Hotel Rome St Peter's. Drive to Citta di Castello in Umbria and visit the Villa Montesca where Montessori gave her first-ever training course at the home of the Franchetti family. Picnic lunch at the Villa. After lunch, depart for Jesi in Le Marche. Overnight and dinner at the Hotel Federico 11. Day 10 Friday 12 January 08:30hrs depart from Hotel Federico 11 and drive to Chiaravalle, Maria Montessori's birthplace. 09:00hrs meet the Mayor of Chiaravalle followed by tours of Study Centre and schools (0-3 and 3-6). Lunch at Area 50 Ristorante, Pizzeria and Bar to sample Italian food and wine of the area. After lunch, depart for Pegognaga in Lombardia. Check into Hotel Novecento. 18:45hrs depart for dinner at Le Botti Pizzeria and Steakhouse in Gonzaga. Michele Dal Trozzo (Gonzagarredi) is our host for the evening. Day 11 Saturday 13 January 09:00hrs depart from Hotel Novecento and drive to Gonzagarredi factory for reception and factory tour. 11:30hrs depart for nearby Palidano and visit estate of the Marchesa Maria Guerrieri Maraini Gonzaga where Montessori lived and worked. Lunch at Giardino Maria Montessori. Depart for Bergamo. Check into Hotel Excelsior San Marco. "Farewell to Italy" dinner at Hotel Excelsior. Day 12 Sunday 14 January 10:00hrs depart from Hotel Excelsior San Marco and visit Fondazione Centro Internazionale Studi Montessoriani, Bergamo. 14:30hrs depart Bergamo for Malpensa Airport - Milan. Farewell those leaving the Study Tour. Depart Milan for Amsterdam. Arrive Amsterdam and check into Gresham Memphis Hotel. Day 13 Monday 15 January Free day to sightsee Amsterdam. Optional tours can be arranged at a cost. Day 14 Tuesday 16 January 09:30hrs depart hotel for Nienhuis Factory, Zelham for presentation, lunch and factory tour. 14:30hrs depart for Kroller Muller Museum. 17:15hrs depart for Amsterdam. Day 15 Wednesday 17 January Visit AMI Head Office. Amsterdam Mystery Tour which includes lunch. Day 16 Thursday 18 January 08:30hrs depart hotel for Flower Markets at Aalsmeer then Maria Montessori's grave. Lunch near Noordwijk. 18:30 hrs "Farewell to Holland" dinner at Gresham Memphis Hotel. Day 17 Friday 19 January Depart Amsterdam in afternoon for Australia. Optional stopover can be arranged for Europe and / or Asia Day 18/19 Saturday 20 or Sunday 21 January Arrive Australia (final flight details to be advised).
